2008 20 Week CSA
Greetings from Beulahland Farm!
Thank you for your interest in our new CSA. We hope that the information
contained on this website will answer your questions about our farm and how
our CSA operates. If not, feel free to e-mail or telephone us.
Beulahland Farm is a small family farm located in the countryside near the
little town of Lyons, in Northeastern Nebraska, where the State's best
farmland is located. The land is farmed with family labor.
Knowing your farmer is the best assurance that the food you are buying is
farm fresh and naturally grown. We practice eco-friendly, diversified and
sustainable agriculture. The vegetables and fruits that you purchase from us
are Certified Naturally Grown, and are fresh from our family farm
to your family's table.
Certified Naturally Grown is a non-profit eco-labeling program for
family farms that grow their crops naturally, without the use of
synthetic chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, or GMO seeds. Certified Naturally Grown is
only open to family farmers who sell their produce locally and
provides farmers with a nationally recognized label supported by national
and international Environmental Groups, Health Organizations, and
Agricultural Groups - including the International Federation of Organic
Agriculture Movements. With more than 600 family farms all across the United
States, Certified Naturally Grown is a leading voice in the
renaissance of family-based, diversified, sustainable, and chemical free
agriculture.
We sell our farm products at the Omaha Farmers Market, located at 11th &
Jackson in the Old Market; the Village Pointe Farmers Market, located at
168th & Dodge in the parking lot of the Village Pointe Shopping Center;
through the Nebraska Food Cooperative; and now through our Subscription CSA.
Between 1994 and 2002, the number of
Farmers Markets in the United States grew by 79 percent, reflecting a
growing preference among consumers for farm fresh products. A CSA is the
next logical step. For consumers, a Subscription CSA provides a
connection with a local farm family, and a safe and reliable source of
high quality food.
By subscribing to our CSA, you will
not only receive locally grown produce, but will be able to put a face
on your food. My family and I will become your farmers. You
will be able to visit with us each week when you pick up your food, and
call or e-mail us anytime. This will allow you to develop a relationship
with us as your family's farmers, knowing personally the people who grow
your food and how it is being grown. By subscribing, you will also be
supporting the renewal of eco-friendly, diversified, and family-based
agriculture, and of a local food system. Our subscribers will be our
priority customers, and will receive the "first pick" from our gardens each
week, providing them with the very best we have to offer.
So, how does our CSA work? We will provide our subscribers with 20 weeks of
fresh, delicious and wholesome farm produce running from mid-May to early
October. The assortment of produce will vary throughout the season and will
contain a wide variety. At Beulahland Farm, we grow spinach and gourmet
salad mixes, bright lights Swiss chard, radishes, carrots, green onions,
English peas, green beans, new potatoes and bakers, summer and winter
squash, tomatoes, peppers, melons and more! Due to the unpredictability of
nature we cannot guarantee any specific item or customize individual
subscriptions. We suggest that a subscription is about right for a family of
four, but everyone is different in their eating habits so this is only a
guideline. Too much? Share the bounty with a friend!
The cost of a subscription is only $25.00 per week for 20 weeks ($500.00 for
the season). All natural, free-range chicken eggs are available for an
additional $4.00 for a dozen Large, Grade A, Candled eggs per week for 20
weeks ($80.00 for the season) or $40.00 for a half dozen. A completed
subscription form with payment in full or a $100.00 non-refundable deposit
reserves your subscription. Early subscriptions are important to us as they
help us with our planting plans. The balance of $400.00 is due by May 1,
2008. Harvest pick-ups are on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to Noon at our
farmstand at either the Omaha Farmers Market in the Old Market or at the
Village Pointe Farmers Market in West Omaha. There are a limited number of
subscriptions available.
